This is more simple than the front cover. I made the title of the album red as this stands out aganist the blue so its more obvious.

Jeffery Lewis.

Jeffery Lewis also uses the same techiniques as I have used to create an interesting album cover. He is included both photography and almost comic style drawings.
Although Jeffery Lewis is not linked to my band within Genre, he still uses the same ideas as I would like to use within my digipack. I believe that this way, the album becomes much more eye catching and exciting for the audience to look at and want to buy rather than just having a band member standing in a pose.
This is my final idea for my digipack.
Not all my panels will have both photo and drawings combined.

Another Digipac Idea.

This version is still slightly computerized and has a drawing effect on the picture of the man. I think this version is slightly less eye capturing than my other design.

I like the last version the most as it is much more interesting and colourful than the first. It will capture the audiences' attention much more quickly.

Photoshop design. (Unfinished)

This is the first step in creating my design in photoshop. I have managed to draw an outline of the album cover in black and white. Some of it is slightly faded in parts.

Album cover explanations. (Unfinished)

The main feature of my design is the Eye of Providence. The symbol has been around for centuries and is represented through a lot of religions. The eye is often surronded by rays of light and is enclosed by a triangle. It is used to stray away evil and protect the people. It is also used to decipit the image of God. As my music video is soley based around heaven and hell and the differences, I thought the Eye of Providence would be a great symbol for my digipack as its a representation of both sides in different meanings. (It see's all the good in the world and protects the world from all the bad).
Also in another version of my digipack I have used the Hamsa symbol which holds the same meaning as the Eye of Providence.

The design is very detailed and most commonly found in the Middle East and North Africa. It is used in jewlerry and wall hangings as a sign of protection that also represents blessings, power, and strength, and is seen as potent in deflecting the evil eye. The hand can be depicted with the fingers spread apart to ward off evil, or as closed together to bring good luck.
Again this is a good symbol for the design of my digipack as it has a strong link to the ideologies that run through my music video.

The colours within my front cover are going to be bright and vivid. I want the design to be eye catching and interesting. As the designs I am including are detailed, I want them to stand out from the crowd and capture the audiences' interest straight away. The Hamsa and the Eye of Providence can be linked to Buddhism which again in its images of religion has a lot of colour. For example the Ganesh is detailed and bright which is the same sort of look I want for my digipack.

This is the computerized version (1). The scanning cut of the edge of the design but this is just a rough idea of what the final version will look like.

This is the computerized version (2). There is a slight difference in the two computerized versions and I think the second picture has more detail than the first.

Album Cover Idea.

This is my first idea for my digipack front cover design for the single "Stay Young" by Dora Nadine.

Iconic Album Covers.

The album cover to a great single/ep is very important. It is the first point of view from the audience’s eyes, thus it needs to be captivating and catch their interest instantly. It is more than a marketing device, it creates the music visually.
The Sex Pistols Iconic album – Nevermind the Bollocks, was a very popular album. The publicity that the sex pistols already held didn’t make it necessary to include their faces within the cover. The design of the album was supposed to be made to look “easy and fun”. Reid the designer called the art “cheap hype”. The ransom note lettering that he used was increasingly imitated by other bands of a similar genre.  

Another popular band was – The Clash. They performed their album “London Calling” on September 21^st 1979 at New York’s palladium. Simonon was seen smashing his bass guitar up at the concert due to him thinking that the show wasn’t going as well as he planned. They took a photo of him doing this and put it onto the front cover of their album, interpreting a more performance base display of the band rather than considering art form like The Sex Pistols.

 However the most famous album cover of all time would have to be Nirvana’s Nevermind. The album cover displays a young boy in a swimming pool, with a dollar floating beside him. The boy in the photo never received anything from Nirvana for being in the cover, at the time of being photographed, Nirvana weren’t that popular. However now Spencer Elden has recreated the cover to celebrate the 20^th anniversary of “Nevermind”  - Elden was interviewed at this celebration and he was asked his opinion on the album and the band, his response was “I like Nirvana a lot and there are no songs that I don’t like — they all have a special place for people”. The reason for the album cover was because Kurt cobain had seen a T.V. program on water births and thought it was an interesting image. After the picture was taken he thought it would be cool to add the dollar on a fish hook.

 

 

A Day To Remember – What separates me from you?

The album cover illustrates the name of the album. The man trapped illustrates his separation from the crowd that surrounds him. The glass between him and the rest of the audience acts as a barrier, in that they belong together and he is isolated. The band were interviewed and they were asked what made them choose the album cover – “We've had a different person do almost every record. I go with the person I'm feeling for the project. I wanted the artwork for What Separates Me from you to be a little more serious. It has the vibe of a painting.” The image connotes a message across to the audience of the album. It might attract an audience that feel the same way as what is displayed in the image – a subculture that feel isolated from others. Also the fact that A Day To Remember are of rock genre, which tries to isolate itself from mainstream culture also could be linked to the album cover. The singer Jeremy McKinnon said “It's like you're separated from everybody else. It was definitely important and I'm always conscious of stuff like that.” Reaching out to that audience, creating another subculture almost, that feels isolated from the rest of society.

 

 

 

Examples of similiar artists and their album covers.

As you can see, most of these album covers have a similiar style. Most have used a computerised/cartoon effect to create the photo. This is what I plan to do for my digipack for "Stay Young"
